Janice Tan

Janice was born in China in May 1984. At the age of four she began formal piano lessons, and at 12 was admitted to the Guangzhou Xinghai Conservatory of China, with holding a full China Government Scholarship.

Janice won numerous prizes in China, including the Second Youth Artist Awards in 1990; Canton Youth Pearl Prize Piano Competition in 1991. She gave a performance in Fukungka Japan for the Chairman of Chinese-Japanese Peace and Friendship Association in 1996; She also played in the Ceremony in Memory of Chopin’s 150 Years in Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall in 1999.

Janice came to Adelaide and started her Bachelor Degree at Elder Conservatorium in August 2004. In 2005, Janice was awarded the Maude Harriet Riley Scholarship at Adelaide University, and in July 2005 she presented a recital in Adelaide Festival Theatre for “Steinway and Sons” pianos presentation. She was also the soloist in the Chopin Concerto no.1 with both the Elder Symphony Orchestra and Norwood Symphony Orchestra that year. Janice played a recital with the principle cellist of Adelaide Symphony Orchestra Mr. Janis Laurs at Elder Hall 8th August 2007.

Janice has completed Masterclasses with Piers Lane, Boris Berman and Gil Sullivan. In 2006 she held the Patrick Cecil Greenland Scholarship for piano at Adelaide University, and also she won the Lunch Hour Award – Recitals Australia 2006 and 2007.

Janice has been invited as a guest performer playing performances at Queen Adelaide Room in Adelaide City Town Hall for Adelaide Lord Mayor’s civic receptions since April 2005.

Janice completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) at Elder Conservatorium in 2006. Janice now is teaching at Padare Christian College; King’s Baptist Grammar School and Flinders University Drama Department as a piano tutor.

In July 2008, Janice will attend a summer course and play performances in Normandy France.
