Russian music of the 20th century from this prize-winning Ukrainian duo. in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre's Sunday Spectrum Program Elena Mogilevski, pianist, is a prize-winner of the Ukrainian Chamber Music Competition and holds a score of awards for participation in various Ukrainian and All-Soviet Union competitions. Elena Mogilevski studied at the Ukrainian State Conservatory and later at the Moscow University for the Arts. She has been a senior lecturer and activee chamber music performer based at the Ukrainian State and St Petersburg State Conservatories. She is currently an official accompanist with the Victorian College of the Arts and the University of Melbourne Conservatorium. Mark Mogilevski, violinist, is a double prize-winner of the Ukrainian Competition (for solo and for chamber ensemble performance), winner of the USSR Competition and second prize winner of the International Paganini Competition in Genoa. Mark Mogilevski studied at the Kharkov State University, Ukraine and in 1985 he won second prize in the Paganini Violin Competition in Genoa. From 1988-1991, he was Concertmaster of the State Symphony Orchestra of St Petersburg. Since migrating to Australia in 1996, Mark has been Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and is currently Associate Concertmaster of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. From 1991-1996, the Mogilevski Duo was based in Europe and performed extensively in Portugal and France. Their recitals in prestigious Concert Halls of Lisbon Porto, Montpellier, Paris and other cities were widely acclaimed in press and received great public support. The duo came to Australia in 1996 and was well received by local public and musical community in general. Mark and Elena gave recitals in Melba Hall and South Gate Church, performed at the Red Hill Festival, the Melbourne Festival (1997-1999), toured Australia with chamber music recitals in Sydney and Adelaide and participated regularly in ABC Sunday Life series (1997-2001) and Monash University chamber music series (1995-2001). During the past seven years the Mogilevski Duo has become well known to the public in and outside Melbourne.
